To serve you best, you will be given an itemized treatment plan when your pet is admitted to the hospital. In addition, surgical procedures include complimentary bandage changes (if required) and a complimentary follow-up exam to make sure all went well.

Orthopedic surgeries are performed at our hospital by a nationally board certified veterinary surgeon. The procedures available at our hospital are by appointment only and include, but are not limited to:

- Complicated or difficult soft tissue surgery

Radiowave Surgery
For the health, safety and comfort of your pet, our hospital is pleased to offer radiowave technology as part of our surgical services.
With radiowave surgery, your pet will require anesthesia for a shorter period of time and experience shorter post-surgical healing.
How Does Radiowave Surgery Work?
A radiofrequency electrode tip becomes energized by radiowaves. The ultra-high frequency radiowaves provide specific and delicate tissue interaction. This results in a focused cutting and coagulating effect, which disintegrates and volatilizes cells minimizing the amount of tissue destruction. Healing is rapid and less painful with the formation of a supple tissue identical to surrounding normal tissue.
Why is Radiowave Surgery Safe?
No contact is needed between the neutral plate and the patient, eliminating the possibility of burns or shocks. There is no risk of accidentally burning other areas of tissue through reflection or penetration of a light beam (as with laser). Radiowave surgery provides a tactile but pressure-less incision, which allows the doctor to sense what is being incised. Radiofrequency energy is low-temperature, minimizing the occurrence of tissue necrosis and burning.

Anesthesia
To ensure the health and safety of your pet during surgery, our experienced staff uses a multi-parameter monitoring and anesthesia system ensuring that we provide the most diligent and compassionate care.
Prior to surgery, your pet will received a thorough physical exam and pre-surgical metabolic blood profile. The results of these tests along with your pet's past anesthetic history, breed, preexisting conditions, and age are used to create an individualized anesthesia protocol for your pet.
During surgery, your pet is cared for by a skilled and experienced veterinary technician using our monitoring system which tracks blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, body temperature, and oxygen level. We also keep your pet on a circulating, warm water heating blanket that carefully maintains your pet's body temperature during the procedure and prevents hypothermia.
Pain Management
We all know that pain hurts, but pain also has many other detrimental effects on your pet's body. Pain slows healing, decreases activity and causes behavioral changes such as aggression, anxiety, and depression. Pain can worsen diseases like arthritis and potentially some cancers. It also interferes with the bond between you and your pet.
We believe that the prevention and elimination of pain is essential to a pet's quality of life and to the healing process. As part of our commitment to keep your pet comfortable and protect the bond you both share, we practice the most up-to-date and comprehensive pain management protocol. All patients receive pain medications prior, during, and after surgery. For acute and chronic conditions and palliative care we use all our available and safe medications, including local anesthetics, NSAIDs (non-steroidal medications) and oral and injectable analgesics for the complete comfort of your pet.

Post-Operative Care
Following surgery, all patients are kept warm and comfortable and are closely monitored to assure the right start to the healing process. Postoperative monitoring includes, urine output, body temperature, and level of consciousness. A hospital technician will continue to stay with the patient until they are awake and standing. The amount of time your pet will need to monitored after surgery varies. In some cases, animals will need to be monitored overnight; in others, they can be sent home the same day.
When your pet is discharged from the hospital, your pet's doctor will provide you with detailed information on how to properly care for your pet at home after surgery and properly administer any prescribed medication and answer all your questions. If any questions arise after your pet returns home or at any other time during the postoperative period, please call us.
All surgical procedures include a courtesy post-operative follow-up examination. We are happy to do all we can to ensure your pet's quick recovery.
